Machine Learning Applications for Health Care (HCIN 620)

Course Overview

Students will develop the foundational knowledge to discern and evaluate patterns within complex healthcare datasets, leading to the formulation of predictions via purposeful algorithms by applying machine learning (ML) techniques to healthcare scenarios. The course will empower students with the ability to identify clinical patterns through ML and utilize this knowledge to predict hospital readmissions, recognize patients at risk of hospital-acquired infections, and support clinicians in diagnostic reasoning. Throughout this course, students will explore a range of ML methodologies and apply those methodologies to solve common clinical challenges. Students will gain expertise in understanding how ML methods derive insights from data, facilitating prediction, classification, clustering, and exploratory data analysis.
