Vanessa Wertheim, PhD, MBA, PHN, CCRN

Dr. Wertheim’s research career began after college at UC San Diego School of Medicine where she collected patient safety data in the operating room. Recognizing the importance of high functioning teams, she earned an MBA from University of Miami with a specialization in leadership and teams, and subsequently received a master’s certificate in healthcare leadership from Cornell University.

After a number of years building and managing startups, Dr. Wertheim turned her sights to the clinical arena where she worked in neonatal and pediatric critical care. While earning her PhD in Nursing from the University of San Diego, Dr. Wertheim served as an advisor for the executive team at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and later became one of the founding directors of Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for UC San Diego Health, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, and Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. In addition, Dr. Wertheim holds faculty positions both in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego and in the Department of Medicine, Division of Biomedical Informatics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
