Master of Education

impact

In Fall 2013, the Master of Education program was launched online to provide greater accessibility to teachers pursuing higher education. It is designed for practicing K-12 teachers with a minimum of two years of teaching experience in a wide variety of classroom settings, including public district, charter, independent or non-traditional schools. This diversity of backgrounds allows students to leverage knowledge, experience and real-world applications from their peers to enrich learning throughout the program. It is also ideal for educators pursuing leadership positions such as principal and superintendent, as well as those seeking careers in Ed Tech and corporate educational roles.

The online Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program prepares students with the knowledge and skills they need to enhance their teaching – with an emphasis on equity and social justice, classroom inquiry and a professional response to the Common Core Standards. This part-time online degree program allows teachers to build on their skills and enables degree candidates to earn their degree. A great example of this is the “Teaching Race in the Classroom – Takeaway Strategies and Techniques” webinar facilitated by M.Ed. Online Academic Director, Dr. Joseph Lathan: https://youtu.be/FOxJZTq8IdQ

This scholarship will allow our teachers to accomplish this and give them the financial support needed to concentrate on their professional development. With this scholarship, our goal is to increase the capacity to attract great students and allow them to focus on building their skillset.

Will you join in this effort by donating toward student scholarships?

Students and Alumni have shared:

Great teachers, great curriculum, and the materials that they choose are really thought out. It’s made me a better person.

My USD education will help me design curriculum that’s appropriate for all students and get them to want to be leaders, because the leadership was a big part of the education here. I was nervous about (the asynchronous online learning format) going into it but the professors are very accessible; they’ll work with you. The online (platform) itself is easy to navigate so it wasn’t as scary as I initially thought.

I gained so much more within my teaching pedagogy. I feel more confident as an educator. I fell in love with action research and grew into a reflective practitioner.

The M.Ed online program through USD was great! I chose the Curriculum and Instruction program and it allowed me a lot of choices so I could take a range of classes and explore different areas. All of my professors were supportive and available and they made it clear they wanted me to succeed. I would recommend this program to anyone!

I chose University of San Diego for the nationally ranked and recognized programs they have to offer in Education. USD’s reputation of serving quality education in a brick and mortar environment led me to believe that their online environment would do the same. It did!

The mission and core values of the SOLES program and the University of San Diego attracted me to the MEd program. Within the first semester in the program, I was thoroughly impressed by the consistency of professors who aided and supported teaching and learning while actively incorporating the school’s mission. Online learning can be intimidating, but USD has surpassed my expectations of online learning and has continuously been committed to helping me grow academically and professionally.
