Students who earn a grade of “B” or better in all four courses in the University of San Diego’s Data Analytics and Visualization Certificate program may be eligible to waive the six units of prerequisites for the University of San Diego’s Master of Science in Applied Data Science. By waiving these prerequisite courses (ADS 500A and ADS 500B), you’ll be able to immediately get started with the program’s foundational coursework, in which you’ll learn about the foundations of data science and data ethics as well as applied data mining.

The mission of the Master of Science in Applied Data Science program is to offer a state-of-the-art online learning experience that will enable students to master the technical skills and soft skills necessary for solving challenging analytics problems seen every day in a wide range of data-rich domains.

The USD Master of Science in Applied Data Science program:

Designed to be completed in 20 months over five semesters, the program requires students to complete 30 academic units plus 6 prerequisite units (note: these may be waived by earning a grade of “B” or above in all courses in the University of San Diego’s Data Analytics and Visualization Certificate program or by a candidate’s education and experience in mathematics, engineering, programming, computer science, and analytics). Of the 30 academic units:
- 6 units focus on introductory topics and fundamentals
- 21 units cover technical aspects essential to the field of data science
- 3 units are dedicated to the comprehensive Data Science Capstone Project
