I have been involved in law enforcement since 2012. For almost eleven years, I worked for the Los Angeles Police Department as a police officer. I held a variety of different roles within the department as a field training officer, vice officer, and special problems unit officer as well. I have been with the Town of Truckee since May 2023. I won the MADD award and became the instructor for the department concerning SFSTs. I love being involved in law enforcement and wish to see our profession thrive.
What motivated you to be a LEPSL ambassador?
I want to see officers better equip themselves for the profession. I found the LEPSL program and it truly changed my life and gave me the strength to even leave my former department. I believe in the program and wish to see it grow.
Why did you choose the LEPSL program? What made LEPSL stand out in comparison to other schools/programs?
I chose the program because it provided me with the ability to study online. The program also provided the success stories of years in existence. It was not just a new program that was not being supported. I very much appreciate the university making an effort to grow the program.
What were your concerns about starting a graduate program?
The time commitment, given the fact I have three children and was working full time, was the biggest concern I had when I began the program.
How did the LEPSL program help you achieve your career goals?
It has given me the confidence to continue my education and attempt to become involved in higher education as a professor.
What advice would you share with prospective LEPSL applicants?
The advice I would give someone to be a more effective leader is to lead by example. Be willing to own the mistakes you make and be a servant leader. I am a firm believer in servant leadership, and I believe it is the best approach for those seeking to lead well.
What was your favorite part of the LEPSL program?
My favorite part of the program was being able to listen and gather information from different sources. It was amazing being in different classes with people from all over the country. Everyone has a different perspective and we all were able to learn from each other.
What were you balancing while participating in the LEPSL program?
I was balancing being married with three children, one being a newborn, and working full time. It wasn’t easy, but it was made possible, given the way the program is set up.
How did you stay motivated throughout the program in the face of competing priorities in your life?
The end goal was always to obtain my degree and that is what kept me focused the entire time. I knew it would not be easy, but nothing in life comes easily.
