John Glick, PhD

Professor and Former Chair, Department of Computer Science, Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering

John Glick is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of San Diego, where he has been a faculty member since 1993. He teaches in the Computer Science Department within the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, where he has had extensive leadership experience serving as department chair.

John’s academic background spans both engineering and computing; he holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas, an M.S. in chemical engineering from Northwestern University, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Minnesota. Prior to his career in academia, he gained industry and research experience working for the DuPont Chemical Company, the Sperry Computer Company, and Sandia National Laboratories.

At USD, John has taught across a wide spectrum of the curriculum, ranging from introductory programming to advanced upper-division theory. His research has focused on optimization and parallel algorithms, with work published in leading journals such as the Journal of Global Optimization, Computational Optimization and Applications, and the SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications. John leverages his decades of academic governance and technical expertise to help shape the future of USD’s Information Technology Leadership program.
