I have worked for the Santa Cruz Police Department for over six years. I currently serve as a Patrol Apprehension Canine Handler, a member of our tactical team, a department sniper, and serve on the Honor Guard.
What motivated you to be a LEPSL ambassador?
This program has been an amazing learning experience. I want more people to be able to have this opportunity and I want to help the program succeed.
Why did you choose the LEPSL program? What made LEPSL stand out in comparison to other schools/programs?
Of the several programs I reviewed, LEPSL was the only program that seemed truly focused on the leadership aspect of law enforcement. The LEPSL program is dedicated to developing law enforcement leaders.
What were your concerns about starting a graduate program?
Time management was a significant concern, as I have several responsibilities at my agency.
How did the LEPSL program help you achieve your career goals?
While I have not promoted yet, I am confident that this program will help me stand out amongst my peers when I decide to apply.
What advice would you share with prospective LEPSL applicants?
I would highly recommend the program and encourage prospective applicants to not worry over the time commitment. The workload is absolutely manageable, and everyone affiliated with the program works to ensure student success.
What was your favorite part of the LEPSL program?
My favorite part of the program is the discussion boards because I get to interact with and learn from leaders from agencies across the country.
What were you balancing while participating in the LEPSL program?
I balanced a patrol schedule, life and training as a canine handler, tactical team deployments, and trainings during this program. While certainly a commitment, nothing was overwhelming.
How did you stay motivated throughout the program in the face of competing priorities in your life?
Throughout the LEPSL program, cadre support helped me stay motivated.
