What motivated you to be a LEPSL ambassador?
I appreciate everything that I gained from the LEPSL program.
Why did you choose the LEPSL program? What made LEPSL stand out in comparison to other schools/programs?
I chose the LEPSL program because its curriculum was relevant to my current work and where I wanted my career to go. LEPSL further stood out because it was affordable and manageable, given my hectic schedule.
What were your concerns about starting a graduate program?
I had serious concerns about my ability to meet the commitment and the overall difficulty of the program.
How did the LEPSL program help you achieve your career goals?
This program has helped me advance in my career. It has given me valuable research skills, and the networking opportunities have been priceless. Policing is now a global concept, and I have had the chance to interact with law enforcement officers from all over the country and the world.
What advice would you share with prospective LEPSL applicants?
This program takes you out of your comfort zone and offers actual growth. Topics like conflict resolution and organizational leadership are invaluable, not to mention the capstone project that ties it all together.
What was your favorite part of the LEPSL program?
All the courses were relevant to policing in today’s society. The instructors were current and former law enforcement practitioners. One of the best examples of leadership was the program director’s involvement in teaching and supporting students.
What were you balancing while participating in the LEPSL program?
When I started this program, I was a sergeant leading a small but active problem-oriented policing team. This responsibility also involved planning and implementing public safety efforts for significant community events. The hours were long, but by the end, I had been promoted to shift commander, working various patrol shifts, including overnight. I was also trying to be a present father for two young children. The organization of this program allowed me to balance all of my responsibilities. It ended up being a great lesson in time management.
How did you stay motivated throughout the program in the face of competing priorities in your life?
I was committed to finishing the program as fast as possible. I ended up appreciating the fact that the classes run consecutively. I did not want to be set back by taking a break. It pushes you to continue when things are hard, which is what leaders do.
