Learning Designer, Sun Life
What kind of job do you have in instructional or learning design?

I work at Sun Life as a Learning Designer. I lead the analysis, design, and development of learning assets. I also create a framework for performance improvement through learning and development.

Why did you choose the LDT program?

What caught my attention was that it was offered as a learning science with experienced practitioners from different industries. It was also important for me to belong to a school with Catholic values and traditions that celebrated inclusivity and giving back to community.

How did the LDT program help you achieve your career goals?

The LDT program has and continues to help me achieve my career goals. I have received a promotion and been involved in two major, multimillion dollar funded-projects, where my work has impacted thousands of employees, vendors and leaders. Most recently, I was the recipient of my company’s achievement award for my contribution as an instructional-design leader.

What advice would you share with prospective LDT applicants?

Do you want to have a seat at the table? This program will help you get that coveted spot

What was the most unexpected part of the program?

Working full-time and going to school in a different time zone went by so very very fast. I missed school after graduation.

What were you balancing while participating in the LDT program?

I balanced self-care, a marriage, full-time work, Board Director and my community-leader responsibilities.

How did you stay motivated throughout the program in the face of competing priorities in your life?

It helped me to have a dedicated space for program work. I did not share my program work with my work-life/laptop.
