I am 52 years old, a married father of 4 and I’ve been a police officer for over 23 years. I have previously worked as a detective, I was the dispatch supervisor, and I am currently managing the department schedule while working as a patrol sergeant.
What motivated you to be a LEPSL ambassador?
I would like to help and answer questions for others who are considering entering in the program.
Why did you choose the LEPSL program? What made LEPSL stand out in comparison to other schools/programs?
I chose the LEPSL program because the University of San Diego is such a reputable institution.
What were your concerns about starting a graduate program?
Whether or not I was going to be able to manage work, family, and school at the same time.
How did the LEPSL program help you achieve your career goals?
I believe that having a degree from the University of San Diego will help me obtain the position within my department that I hope to be promoted to.
What advice would you give to someone to be a more effective leader?
To be an effective leader is to be a lifelong learner, and this program aids you to continue to grow as a leader in the ever-evolving world of law enforcement.
Did you have a favorite instructor?
I think my favorite instructor was Dr. Fritsvold. Prior to having a class with him, I was very worried about meeting the expectations of an academic professor; However, he was very approachable, receptive, and responsive whenever I had questions. I really enjoyed his class.
What were you balancing while participating in the LEPSL program?
I am a field supervisor (sergeant) with collateral duties like scheduling supervisor, working overtime due to staffing shortages at work, in addition being married with 4 children.
How did you stay motivated throughout the program in the face of competing priorities in your life?
I have always wanted to complete a graduate program and obtain my Master’s degree and I could not lose the money I invested in this program.
