Course Description

This course will guide the students through the dynamics of humanitarian negotiation and mediation. The course will provide students with a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge to develop their understanding of humanitarian negotiation and mediation, including how these processes apply to day-to-day humanitarian work. The course will expose students to difficult, yet real dilemmas encountered in an increasingly complex, multi-layered and multi-shock humanitarian operating environment. This course is tightly linked with other courses on Humanitarian Essentials and Security. Ultimately, the course will equip students to elaborate a humanitarian negotiation strategy, taking into consideration the humanitarian objectives and the stakeholders at play.

Prerequisites: MSHA 500 & MSHA 501.
