About
Dr. Bilgenur Baloglu is a molecular biologist specializing in the development of molecular and bioinformatics tools for scalable biodiversity monitoring. She is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Wild Genomics and an adjunct professor in applied data science and AI at University of San Diego. She previously served as a teaching faculty in Translational Genomics at the University of Southern California, where she taught machine learning in genomic data analysis. Dr. Baloglu also works as a bioinformatics scientist at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the National University of Singapore and a B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Istanbul Technical University. She completed postdoctoral work at the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics, in Guelph, Canada, where she has consulted on the US EPA funded Great Lakes biomonitoring project, collaborating with taxonomists, ecologists, and molecular biologists. Her work focuses on utilizing DNA sequencing technologies for large-scale environmental monitoring.
