Derek Swenningsen, M.S.

Adjunct Professor

Derek Swenningsen has several years of experience in adversarial cyber penetration testing and exploit development. His experience in this field was gained while attaining his M.S. in Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School (focus on exploit development) and on tactical systems for the Department of Defense. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1999 as an avionics technician for AV-8B Harriers before becoming a commissioned officer in 2002. He spent eight years as an F/A-18 Hornet pilot completing two deployments aboard U.S. Naval aircraft carriers. His professional interests include reverse engineering, network penetration testing, exploit development, and malware analysis.
