Jonni Redick, EdD
Jonni Redick retired as an Assistant Chief with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) from a large multi-billion-dollar state agency with over 7,500 sworn members and collectively over 11,000 total employees.
A 29-year veteran, rising through the California Highway Patrol (CHP) ranks from county clerical worker to breaking through the “less-than-one-percent” ceiling for women of color in executive leadership in law enforcement. Over her career, she has worked throughout California, holding uniformed ranks from officer to Assistant Chief. She was the first female captain of the Contra Costa CHP Area in Martinez, CA, working with 18 allied agencies to provide service to an 802-square-mile region. Administratively, she has overseen multi-million dollar statewide, nationally recognized programs.
As an Assistant Chief, she worked in the Golden Gate Division, San Francisco/Bay Area, as a part of executive oversight for 16 field commands with over 1,600 personnel that work in the nine Bay Area counties with over 100 cities and over seven million in population. She retired from Valley Division within the Sacramento region, where she was a part of the executive leadership overseeing 20 CHP commands spanning over 11 counties, including the 3rd largest communications center in the state, which handled over one million 911 calls annually. She has been incident commander for critical incidents, civil disturbances, mutual aid events, and coordination of natural disaster response and oversight.
Dr. Redick is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE), the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
In addition, she is a published author of two books: Her leadership memoir “Black, White & Blue: Surviving the Sifting” and “Survival Guide” to Law Enforcement Promotional Preparation. She is also a regular contributor to Police1 by Lexipol and a professional public speaker.
Jonni Redick has earned a Bachelor of Science in Management, a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership, and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Administration. She is also a graduate of POST Command College.
