Mike Loarie, MS

Captain Mike Loarie has been involved in law enforcement since 1983.  He began his journey as a San Diego Sheriff’s Department Explorer and left the program when he turned 21. From there, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department until 1989 when he became a police officer for the Escondido Police Department.

Capt. Loarie loved being a peace officer. Before his retirement in 2017, he was fortunate to work every assignment at the Escondido Police Department, including SWAT, Canine, Field Training, Public Information Officer, Hostage Negotiations, and Labor Negotiations for Management.  His last assignment was the Services Bureau Captain, and he was the second highest-ranking officer at EPD.

Capt. Loarie enjoys teaching and has been involved in many different professional development programs throughout the entire City of Escondido’s different departments.  Mike understands the value of education and throughout his career, he constantly looked for best practices in both the public and private sectors to help his organization learn and consistently meet or exceed the expectations of the community and internal customer.

Capt. Loarie has a BS in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University and an MS in Executive Leadership from the University of San Diego.
