About
Dr. Rod Albuyeh is Principal Data Scientist at Labcorp, specializing in end-to-end model development, machine learning operations, and platform infrastructure. Prior to joining Labcorp, he was instrumental in the success of several high-profile AI projects in the Silicon Valley FinTech and global HealthTech spaces, serving in lead data science and machine learning architecture roles at Intuit, Oportun, Figure, and Resmed.
Before starting his career in machine learning, Albuyeh was a Winifred Greenleaf Allen doctoral fellow at the University of Southern California, where he obtained his PhD in Political Science with a quantitative specialization. This grounding in academia sparked a passion for teaching and led to his current commitment to serving the next generation of AI professionals. He also teaches occasionally at UC San Diego’s Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute, teaching courses on machine learning systems and foundational principles.
Advice for students considering USD’s MS-AAI program
Separate your practice from your profession as you embark on a career in artificial intelligence. Even after you land your dream job, continue to practice separately from your work. Continue to challenge yourself and learn. This field rewards those with a lifelong thirst for knowledge.
