Tom Abruzzo, PhD

Dr. Tom Abruzzo (he/him) is the Director of Education & Engagement at CCAE Theatricals and a faculty member in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) at the University of San Diego. He is also a researcher and consultant at the Nonprofit Institute. Tom’s career has taken him across the U.S., from New Jersey to Alaska and Florida, where he worked as a pianist, music director, and arts leader. His research focuses on inclusive leadership in the nonprofit performing arts sector, exploring the paradox of uniqueness and belongingness in historically exclusionary environments. In his current role, he develops sustainable and equitable creative youth development and workforce programs in theatre. Among many things, Tom is passionate about helping nonprofit leaders interpret and use research to improve program planning, evaluate outcomes, and make informed decisions. He holds a Master’s degree in Arts Leadership and Cultural Management from Colorado State University and a BA in Music from Rowan University.
