Ygnacio “Nash” Flores, EdD, MBA, MA
Dr. Flores is Professor of Administration of Justice and Homeland Security at Rio Hondo College where he is also the Homeland Security Program Coordinator. He was formerly the Dean of The Administration of Justice and Fire Technology and Interim Dean of Business and Computer Information Technology at Rio Hondo College. Dr. Flores administered the academic programs in the Administration of Justice and Fire Technology as well as the college’s professional public safety academies, including Police, Fire, Wildland Fire and Homeland Security. In Business, he oversaw Accounting, Business Management, International Marketing, Logistics and Computer Information Technology programs.
Dr. Flores is a retired Lieutenant Commander who honorably retired after 27 years of service in the US Navy. Prior to being commissioned as a naval officer, he served in the navy as a Senior Chief Master-at-Arms. He served in leadership assignments as the Officer-in-Charge, Department Head and Division Officer specializing in law enforcement, physical security, antiterrorism, force protection, homeland security and emergency management.
Dr Flores holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Pepperdine University (Presidents & Key Executives program), an MPS-HS from Pennsylvania State University, an MAIR from the University of San Diego, a Diploma from the Navy War College (Command and Staff program), and a BSCJ National University. Dr. Flores also has an Executive Certificate in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Professional Certificate from the University of Maryland, University College in Drones and Autonomous Systems.
Dr. Flores has authored The Pedagogy of Violent Extremism, and several book chapters on homeland security. He also authored several articles on homeland security, fire services, law enforcement training, business and education. He is a co-columnist for the American Society for Public Administration’s PA Times. In addition to teaching positions at numerous universities, Dr. Flores is qualified as a California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Police Academy Director and Police Academy Instructor.
