Chuck Bane joined the USD Center for Cyber Security Engineering and Technology as a professor of practice in June 2018. He was a highly motivated professional with over twenty years of teaching and curriculum development experience on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Additionally, he was a collaborator in the application process for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence, which successfully resulted in the Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation. Chuck was a project management, communications, and security professional with over thirty-five years of experience in project management, systems security analysis, design, development, and management of network systems supporting the Department of Defense (DoD).

A retired U.S. Naval Officer, Chuck had an extensive military career spanning 25 years—11 years of enlisted service in submarines as a nuclear reactor operator and 14 years as a commissioned officer in Surface Warfare.

Chuck retired from his role as a professor in the engineering program, but continued to be a trusted expert and valued member of the university’s cybersecurity community until his passing. His contributions and legacy continue to impact the field and those who had the privilege of working with him.
