Currently, I am an art teacher at a PK4-7th grade all-boys Catholic school in New Orleans, Louisiana. Along with my role as an art educator, I co-lead our METALS (Math, Engineering, Technology, Art, Logic, and Science) program.
Since graduating from USD with my Master in Education in the STEAM program, I have worked with my school in helping to design a TINKER lab, trained my colleagues in how to apply the design thinking methodology in their classrooms, and I incorporate the STEAM approach to learning in my art classroom.

Why did you choose to earn your MEd degree at USD?
I chose to earn my MEd degree focusing on STEAM from USD because it was a school that offered an online program with a community-based approach. Additionally, I valued how USD offered innovative and global-minded instruction that was intended to be woven within my real-world teaching practice.
What was your favorite part of the MEd online program?
My favorite part of the MEd online program in STEAM was working with instructors and students from all over the nation who were all teachers from various backgrounds and levels. This diversity in the learning community enabled me to grow as I became a more informed educator who learned the importance of collaboration in my practice.
In what ways has the USD MEd online degree program influenced your work as an educator?
This program has enabled me to change my teaching methods so that I have become more of a facilitator. I have noticed that my students enjoy my classroom more as they are learning in a more Constructivist approach.
What advice do you have for students considering USD’s MEd online degree program?
I am so glad that I have the background as an online learner who became an online teacher overnight. Having an online background as a learner enabled me to become a confident online teacher who understood how to teach art through distant learning methods that were modeled to me.
What are the top qualities about the USD MEd online degree program that you think really stand out and lead you to recommend it to others?
I felt that the USD MEd online program was an outstanding program that challenged me to become a better educator. I would describe the program as thoughtfully designed, relevant, challenging, and meaningful. As an experienced educator, I was highly selective in finding a program that would challenge me to bring my teaching program to the next level. I felt that in the end, this program empowered me to become a better teacher and colleague.
