Scholarships & Grants

In addition to financial aid, the University of San Diego and other organizations provide additional financial support for students to further their education. Below is a partial list of scholarships that are available to our students.

Master of Education


Students enrolling in University of San Diego’s online Master of Education degree are eligible to apply for the TEACH Grant. To assess if you qualify, review the criteria outlined in the application by clicking here.

School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) Scholarships

Students enrolling in the University of San Diego’s Master of Education online program are encouraged to apply for a number of scholarships offered through SOLES, with the exception of the Dean’s Graduate Merit Research Award and the USD Graduate Grant.

Masters in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership

Law Enforcement and Public Safety Association / Union Members, Military, Veterans, and Military Spouses Save Over $2,400 on Tuition!

Members of law enforcement and public safety associations or unions are eligible for a reduced tuition rate of $649 per credit hour (regular $699). Active duty military, veterans, and military spouses are also eligible for this discount. A reduced tuition rate will be available for the entire length of the degree as long as the student remains a member of the association or union, etc.

Qualifications and Process:

  • Submit a completed application packet and become admitted to the Masters in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership program. Provide evidence of active union membership (membership card or other proof*). Military, veterans, or military spouses can provide a letter from a current supervisor, officer, or the Veterans Affairs
  • A copy or scan of the card or verification letter needs to be emailed or mailed to your enrollment advisor. The student must update the card or letter annually in January to maintain the reduced tuition
  • The discount tuition will apply to the first course and will continue through the lifetime of the degree as long as the student’s preferred status is maintained, ex. union/association membership
  • The discount cannot be combined with other offers

*If a membership card is not available, applicant must obtain a letter from an association, union, military or veterans affairs representative validating membership.

Tuition Reimbursement and Educational Incentives

Many law enforcement agencies and organizations include tuition reimbursement and salary increases as part of their benefits. Check with your human resources department or union representative to see if your organization offers tuition reimbursement or salary increases for obtaining your master’s degree.

Master of Science in Cyber Security

ICS Foundation Grants

Students enrolling in the University of San Diego’s Master of Science in Cyber Security Engineering degree program are encouraged to apply for a number of scholarships granted by the ICS Foundation to those entering the field, including the graduate scholarship and the women’s scholarship, which awards a full year of tuition up to $40,000.

SWSIS Program Scholarship

The SWSIS program provides scholarships of up to $10,000 for women studying for their Bachelors and Masters degrees in fields relating to information security.

Scholarships are offered to women entering the field of cyber security in an effort to close the growing gender gap in the field.

National Science Foundation Scholarship

The National Science Foundation receives approximately 40,000 proposals each year for research, education and training projects, of which approximately 11,000 are funded. In addition, the Foundation receives several thousand applications for graduate and postdoctoral fellowships.

Veterans Programs

Yellow ribbon schools, such as the University of San Diego, offer support to Veterans through yearly scholarship money that is then matched dollar for dollar by the VA. At USD, that equals $14,896 per year.

The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Supporting women in technology, the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship is offered by Google. This scholarship awards $10,000 to female undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate strong academic and leadership qualities.
