If you are considering enrolling in the online MS-LEPSL program and have attended one of the leadership training programs listed here in the past five years, you are eligible to receive transfer credit toward your degree completion.  This is possible through a process called  “credit validation,” which involves providing USD copies of your completed work for evaluation and grading by a University faculty member. There is a fee for the credit validation process.  Credit validation/transfer credit is currently offered for the following law enforcement training programs:

California POST Command College

If you graduated from California’s Command College in the past five years, you are eligible for 12 units of transfer credit toward the completion of your master’s degree. Your Futures Portfolio will be reviewed and given an academic grade, and the credits will be applied to the last two semesters of your degree program, allowing you to graduate in just 12 months.

California POST Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI)

If you graduated from California’s Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) in the past five years, you are eligible for 6 units of transfer credit toward the completion of your master’s degree. If you enrolled in mostly graduate-level coursework while attending the FBI National Academy, you could complete your MS in Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership (MS-LEPSL) with as few as 19 credits. The University of San Diego will accept up to 12 units of graduate-level coursework from your FBINA training completed in the past five years, and since your units were earned at the regionally-accredited University of Virginia, no credit validation process is necessary.  Please note that not all FBINA courses align with an equivalent course in the LEPSL program. Please follow the link below to see all course equivalencies.

San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute

I chose the LEPSL program because of the immediate and future application of the curriculum towards my profession of police leadership and the tremendous networking opportunities. The online format is perfect for me to be able to balance school, work, and life. I am able to commit the required time to the program when it best suits me and my family and my schedule fluctuates week to week. I researched programs for a few years prior to starting. LEPSL was the best choice for me after factoring in tuition costs, time management requirements, the professionalism of faculty and the prestige of the University of San Diego. I feel like I am a more effective leader within my organization and am better prepared for a second career after retirement.

When I completed POST Command College, I was motivated to further my education. After researching a variety of master’s programs, I learned that the University of San Diego offers graduate level credit for Command College coursework that was transferable to the MS-LEPSL program. I definitely recommend this program to those who are desirous to promote. Managing a contemporary police agency is a complex, demanding profession that requires a motivated and educated individual. The MS-LEPSL program prepares you for these challenges and responsibilities.

The LEPSL program at USD is both challenging and rewarding. I started the program at the end of my law enforcement career and couldn’t be happier about the decision. I love the interaction with fellow students throughout the country and enjoy the feedback provided to me. I find the coursework challenging, contemporary, and interesting. I highly recommend the program.
